Even though air pollution seems impossible to get rid of at this point, there are some things that we can do in our daily lives to change the world little by little. One of the little things you could do is fuel your car at night, thus letting the cool air prevent the gas from expanding, and not having to go back to the gas station sooner. The most popular pollutant in cars is Carbon monoxide which “can cause people to get really sick or even die. In fact, 80% of lung diseases are a result of car pollution.” (study.com). This means that when fuels fail to combust, carbon monoxide is released, which is the main cause of lung disease. Fueling your car at night can reduce that percentage. The number of cars can also affect that number. “Currently in the world there are over 500 million cars, by 2030 the number will rise to 1 billion, therefore doubling pollution levels.” (scitechconnect.elsevier.com). And in addition, only “12.4 percent of Americans cycled on a regular basis.” (statista.com) That number was from 2016, and before that, the percentage was lower. If you were to bike to work, let’s say 2.5 miles each way, you would be saving 85 gallons of gas every week (if you drove an SUV). And if you decided to drive five miles every day, you would be letting almost two gallons of carbon dioxide into the air. Not only does Co2 kill humans, it also kills ecosystems. And although it would take a lot of people to do something major to fix air pollution, there are always little things that you can do, like fueling your car at night, or even biking to work.
